Many people don’t quite realise how historically significant Florence actually is. This tiny town just a few hours north of Rome came into its own after the fall of the empire and as a wealthy republic produced some of the most important historical figures in the world, including renowned artistic geniuses such as Michelangelo, the father of Italian literature Dante Alighieri, and Bayern Munich and Italy striker, Luca Toni.
